LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
BECOME A VOICE IN THE INTERIOR DESIGN CONVERSATION
Interior design is always evolving. Regulations, technology, and best practices shift quickly, and tapping into the IIDA community is the best resource for professional designers and design firms to succeed.
The South Florida Chapter of IIDA encourages all our members to advocate for interior design. Through education and engagement, we can share the importance of interior design with the general public: what it is, and how it plays a critical role in the health, safety, and welfare of the interior environment.
By staying informed and up to date with the interior design industry, pursuing knowledge, and maintaining high levels of credentials, we provide more value to the consumer, and greater mentorship to our peers. When designers are informed and safe, we can achieve exceptional creativity and effectiveness as we support our clients and communities.
CONSORTIUM FOR INTERIOR DESIGN
The Consortium for Interior Design is a collaboration of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ), and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) in pursuit of reasonable regulation of the interior design profession.
SOCIAL ADVOCACY
BECOME A VOICE FOR THE GREATER COMMUNITY
IIDA SFC's commitment goes beyond policy; we actively advocate for social causes, ensuring that every member of our South Florida community is championed and recognized as equally valued. We champion social justice, advocating for the empowerment of every individual and unheard voice across the South Florida.
DIVERSITY IN THE DESIGN PROFESSION
Interior design offers incredible diversity. Hear from design professionals in this short video on the interior design profession. The design community has many successful professions and a variety of large companies throughout the country. Interior Designers are everywhere. They influence all aspects of the built environment and the individuals who inhabit those spaces. Learn more by watching Advocacy: Diversity in the Design Profession.
DIVERSITY BY DESIGN
The power of design lies not only in its aesthetic appeal but in its capacity to transform lives and communities. The IIDA South Florida Chapter’s initiative to introduce interior design to underserved youth is a testament to this power. By providing access and opportunity to a field often perceived as exclusive, the chapter is actively dismantling barriers and fostering a more inclusive and equitable future for the interior design industry.
The "Diversity by Design" workshops are more than just educational programs; they are catalysts for self-discovery and empowerment. By engaging students from 6th to 12th grade, the chapter is planting seeds of creativity and possibility at a crucial stage in their development. The act of designing a dream bedroom and creating a material board is not merely a hands-on activity; it's an exercise in self-expression and envisioning a better future. For many of these students, this may be the first time they are given the tools and encouragement to imagine and create their own spaces.
The IIDA South Florida Chapter’s belief that diversifying the interior design community starts with the youth is a powerful and visionary approach. By unlocking creativity and fostering self-expression at an early age, they are laying the foundation for a more inclusive and representative industry. This initiative is not just about creating designers; it’s about nurturing individuals who are connected to their communities and empowered to make a difference. By fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging students to “break the mold,” the chapter is instilling a sense of agency and inspiring them to pursue their passions, whatever they may be.
The impact of this program extends far beyond the realm of interior design. It’s about fostering a generation of creative thinkers, problem-solvers, and community leaders. By providing underserved youth with the tools and opportunities to express themselves, the IIDA South Florida Chapter is making a profound and lasting contribution to their lives and the future of the design industry.
Honored and proud! On June 6, the IIDA South Florida team accepted the 2025 Chapter Leadership Council Award for our Diversity by Design program, presented by IIDA HQ. This recognition reflects our continued commitment to celebrating diverse voices and inclusive design within our community. A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors for helping make this vision a reality—we couldn’t have done it without your support!
